| Nov.29 Bendale BTI
First things first, thank you JESUS for leading our boat!
The Ontario Technological Skills Competition is held each year by Skills Canada to promote skilled trades and technologies to youth and parents and to change their perception of them. Among the many competitions is the cardboard boat race. You have to come up with a design, using two 4'x8' pieces of cardboard, two rolls of duct tape, and a small can of contact cement, that will travel the fastest in the heat challenge, and contain the heaviest weight in the weight challenge. You have two hours to build the boat, and then you have to race it right after. Three of the four members in my team went to the previous year's challenge, in which we placed 13th. Three of us were also Christians, so we were praying like mad! Prayed when we got there, prayed when we started building, when we finished, before we raced, must have prayed like more that 8 times that day, we prayed so much we got the other person to join in, (she kept asking, are we going to pray now? now? lol ) Using the experience gained from last year, we tried to perfect the design for this year. Remembering how we did not have enough time last year to build our boat, we were so focused this year, we ended up having 45 mins left to decorate the boat and clean up, while I took a nap (since I was the paddler). It was pretty intense though, and throughout the whole process, we had great team bonding. (We should do something like this for kyrios )
For the race, we had heats of three boats each, and being number 26, we went near the end. At first I was kind of nervous, not in my mind, but physically. After though, I was calm as ever. It was very fun watching the many races, which included a boat that ripped apart half way through the heat (pretty sad ), boats that have sides too high for the paddlers to reach over , boats that could not balance properly, boats that turned around in circles (one guy finished backwards ), boats the sped across the pool, and a boat that held 7 people (over 800 lbs)!!!
When I went in the boat, I was pretty confident of winning my heat.
The challenger on my left had what we affectionately named the 'Teacup
Boat' because of its rounded sides, and while the challenger on my
right had a similar design to ours, and a strong white guy to race,
they did not prepare any paddles, which lead to my victory. If you look
near the end in the video, I slowed down and turned around, which I
thought was pretty sleek, but I think that had I done a 'crash'
landing, I would have gotten a better time. Right after the heat, we
only had time to dump the water out of the boat, if any got in, and put
it back in the water immediately for the weight test. Previous years
they provided paper towels to dry our boats. Maybe it took too much
time.

I was pretty happy that the boat felt quite sturdy even after the
race. I was the first to get in, and the boat had to hold my weight
for two minutes. That was quite easy, so two more people got on
afterwards for two minutes. The forth person to get on was a bit
nervous, but it was ok. When the fifth person (a girl from the other
team from our school) got on, the forth person was scared and started
to rock the boat a bit, I kept telling them, we're gonna make it, we're
ok, it's all good... etc. The sixth person the get on was a volunteer
from the hosting school, and was so skinny, it scared me. Anyways, he
got on too quick, so we did not have time to adjust and shift the
weight around, we sank after around 15 secs when the front started
leaking water from the sides. We were still pretty happy with the
results, since we had only two people in the boat last year.
The award ceremony afterwards was really intense. We were all getting hungry and impatient, and they were still running data into the computer. Finally, they got to announcing the winners, starting with 3rd place, awarded to a team from the hosting school, Bendale Buisness and Technology Institute. I was then hoping that we would at least get second prize, but they announced it to another school, Woburn I think, and all four of the members were little kids, all probably around 5 ft. I thought to myself, "boy, we got owned by little kids. sad." My friend had given his camera to someone else to hold just in case we do go up, but after second place was announced, he asked for the camera back. Then the announcer went on to say, "before I announced the winner of the competition, I would like to congratulate some teams who will not receive a medal today, but got into top ten ever for speed and weight..." and blah blah blah... then I heard him say the name of the school that got the heaviest weight, and immediately, I knew that we were going for the first place. All I heard the announcer say was Unionville... AND WE STARTED SCREAMING FOR JOY!!! MY TEAMMATES COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT WE ACTUALLY GOT THE GOLD MEDAL!!! I was already expecting it, but it was still soooo unexpected and exciting, stumbling to the front, as if in a dream, shook hands with the judges and got our medals.
If you want to see more pictures, go to my Facebook.
Afterwards, we prayed one more time to thank God for everything, from speeding up our construction time, to the teamwork we had, even a miscalculation in the design that worked out better, for giving me strength, and of course the gold medal, because we all know that its all because of Him that we won.

| hmmm after such a long post last time, i was expecting a bit more comments maybe its not worth it after all
so, can you tell me, whats happening to me? everything is messed up right now. 2nd time eating dinner at midnight, sleeping during the day, not sleeping during the night, late for class...etc. stuff like that. relationship with bro not so great (no not you ken). on the outside everything looks fine and dandy, on the inside, a million kPa ready to rapture into an explosive display of passionate fireworks
how long can i suppress this? how long am i going to stay bottled up? forever?

| i cant remember so far back, but i'll try
Oct 9th - Oct 31 Pretty much all I can remember during this time period is working on my tech project late into the night, in the cold harsh basement. many nights I have tried to stay up all night, but with the accumulation of the few weeks of sleep deprivation, I've only managed one, which was night/morning of oct31/nov1. The presentation was not as spectacular as I had hoped, me stuttering and forgetting what to say. I left out so many important points from my notes. However, don't get me wrong, I'm not disorganized because of procrastination, not this project anyways. Anyways, I'll be satisfied with whatever mark I get, I'm in this for the fun not the mark. Maybe I shouldn't be, my physics and discrete is dropping like a dead bird. some fun facts - for this project, i: 1)worked more than 200 hrs in 1 month 2)missed two classes and 1 day 3)meaning, i missed 1 quiz and 1 test (teacher was nice and let me write it 5th period) 4)got sick twice 5)got blisters on my fingers 6)missed a doctors appointment. I think you get the point that I'm absolutely crazy about this class, yeah greennalgene, no offense, no one compares to my perfectionism. Thats one thing I gotta change, I think I've been giving too much pressure to my partner.
Unfinished model
Oct.20 So today, I went to doctor, not because I was so sick I couldn't go to school, sick because from lowered immune system from lack of sleep, but because I had made an appointment a while back for annual body checkup. Never knew that doctor's note costs some $5 apparently for some 'service' charge. So I didn't get the note because HAHA IM 18 NOW. Anyways, so I've been having some hearing problem in my right ear, so doctor gives me this liquid to drop in my ear... it made it worse, I drop it at night, and the next day I could not hear anything from my right ear at all. Not until late at night when I have to drop it again. But Thank You GOD, who heals. And to all those who prayed for me, thank you.
Oct 26 Just having finished my physics test the day before, I didn't even care when going into my discrete test. Jokingly, I said to myself as I walked home, "I'm just gonna cry this off and continue with life." It turns out, I did cry, but for a much different reason. The shock did not come to me until a bit after we hanged up. And if I didn't have to teach piano that day, I could have continued for God knows how long.
Oct 31 Finally brought my [unfinished] model for presentation. The day I did not sleep. Only got through half of the presentation before we ran out of time. Nov 1 Finished my presentation. It was horrible, the vice-principal was there to watch us, thats how good the teacher thinks of us. Found out an interesting fact today, the better your project is, the more other people want to put it down, the more they try to find a flaw in it. Question and answer time prob took as much as, if not more than half of our presentation time. It got to a point where the teacher was backing us up and defending all the attack. Finally my answer? "Well, that question you would have to direct to our Engineer, who is unfortunately unable to come today!"
Lord, let me not be prideful, but thankful for all the gifts you have given me, they all come from You.
Nov 2 Well, I have been humbled, got a glimpse of how horrible I'm doing in physics and discrete C: <--- (thats not a happy face, thats what i'm getting)
Nov 3 WOW I'm old!!! Now 18 Years Old!!! 18 years of God's Love and Blessings. What an amazing 18 years it has been. Today, was not the most exciting day though, sort of dissapointed, for reasons which I can not name, sort of down in Spirit. Praise and Prayer was awesome, worship team, I could really feel the heart for God. When you are not so demanding on yourself, you are showing God that this is all for Him, and your own personal image is not important. Good job leading, Jen. Afterwards went to Congee Queen it was pretty good. oh, jono, we still love you... THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HUGS!!!

jono being picked on the whole night.
Nov 4 Got to sleep in today, which is a good thing, but I soon I was washing the clothes, cleaning the basement (still a huge mess from the project), and trying to do my homework. Thank you to the person who "has no time for you" for keeping me company when no one was here yet, and for the tissue to blow my nose into! lol!! you know I'm still going to get you for being a punk... you know what, tomorrow for intercessory prayer, I'm going to pray for you. Yeah, I'm going to say, "Right now, I want to pray for gary, who is a big bully." LOL!!! sadly, I'm not allowed to do that. There were some awkard silence between my school and church buddies, but being first time, I'm not too surprised. Well, now they don't have the excuse "I don't even know anyone in your fellowship." Today, I have relized how much God has blessed me with, how can I be even the slightest bit discontent? If you have read thus far and intend to finish every word, thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such a good friend, and let me know with a smiley in your comment. 12 school friends and 8 church friends came... ahhh we're being outnumbered! Except for the long wait and the slow service, it was pretty good at the Japanese buffet. So full! So sorry that I couldn't be everywhere at the same time. Thank you all for coming, it meant so much too me.
someone likes to suck their thumb...
ohh, I love my cake! ummm, ssuuuggaaaaarrr! i swear, i'm noht dwunk
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR PRESENTS, IT WAS SO UNEXPECTED! THANK YOU SOOO MUCHHH! GOT ME EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED! PLUS MORE! I have sooo much more to be thankful to God for, my cous, gou jie, family, Kyrios, T3C, UHS, but I really need to be sleeping now. Thank You one last time for all your b-day wishes! Have a good one. peace out | | |
